All the three of these belong to different plant families. Each plant has its own special characteristics together with geographic locations and growing conditions.

Blue lotus flowers are native to Egypt and the Indian subcontinent. Right from the ancient times till date, these blue lotus plants were considered sacred in both cultures. Particularly in Egyptian mythology, the blue lotus flowers had a much more importance. This is because they were associated with the Sun God and how the world was created. The significance of these flowers could be found on numerous Egyptian temples and tombs. The color of the lotus plant is such that when the flower opened, it seemed as if it resembled the sky with the sun because of its blue petals and a yellow centre. The flower closed up in the evening, showing a close connection with the rising and the setting of the sun. In the Egyptian mythology, it is said that the Sun God was the one who created the universe and life by removing universal darkness. God was supposed to be seated in the middle of the blue water lotus plant as it emerged out of the water of chaos.

There’s another mythological reference of these water lotuses. It was thought to be the healing flower of the gods. The divine fragrance and sedative effects of the flower made it a favorite for aromatherapy. Its psychoactive properties have also been proven in recent studies. The blue lotus flowers symbolized sexuality in Egyptian culture. A woman holding a bud of the flower represented her fertility and her ability to create life.

Blue calla lotuses hail from South Africa. They grow mainly in marshlands. These blue lotus flowers are generally used in paintings. They are purple in color and could be seen in many art forms which include gift items like ornamental plates, vases, mugs, crystal glasses and etc. Sometimes hey are also featured on wedding costumes, bouquets, corsages, and for floral decorations on several different occasions. Other than all these, the lotus flowers also held a great significance when they were used to decorate rooms and gardens, right from the ancient ties till date.
